It was yet another beautiful(ly hot) afternoon of kickball action at the Grown Up Sports Coed Kickball League located at Lawrence Park in the Houston Heights. Lets take a look at a run down of the action!

Go Kick Yourself v. Kickfooters United

The Kickfooters hadn’t won a game yet this season. Go Kick Yourself hadn’t lost a game. This was primed to be a letdown game for Go Kick Yourself, but under the sage guidance of Bradley Nguyen, they wouldn’t allow themselves to fall victim of complacency. “We’ve been watching film and taking notes to improve our game…” he told reporters. Speaking of improvement, the Kickfooters came out with an improved game plan and have clearly made strides in their kickfooting game. No strides are more evident than team heart throb Saulo, who is showing an ability to not only make his female fans weak at the knees, but also opposing pitchers as they tremble from nervousness as he steps into the kickers box. Unfortunately, it will take more than swooning fans to get a victory in the GUS Leagues, and behind a towering grand slam by team pitcher Stephen, Go Kick Yourself sealed the coffin of victory shut with a pink nail.

*Sidenote – Tony’s swagger rankings took a hit this week; but we expect him to come back full force next week with bold predictions and delusions of grandeur

[\Joe Edit] Stranger Danger was in full effect this whole game. Pause for praise. [/Joe Edit]

Go Kick Yourself wins 9-0

The Foot Clan v. Balls n Dolls

The Foot Clan has shown flashes of greatness. Unfortunately, the holes created in the field by a lack of a roster is starting to show, as again this week they were down to 6 members. Where are the others? Who knows, but help was on the way in the form of Kickfooters Veronica and Dennis. Balls n Dolls started out the game saying they don’t care, demonstrating their ferocity with a 4-0 start to the top of the inning. Things were looking bleak, and you could hear the Foot Clan begin to doubt themselves. But a big bottom of the first tied the game up at 4-4 and let the world know the Foot Clan, though constantly being bested by Leonardo and Company, was not going to lay down for anyone.

Superstar Ric DeLeon is known mostly for his quiet demeanor and mean mid range jumper, but did you also know he has one of the strongest legs in the league? Yep, and now the Foot Clan knows it too, as he was incessantly skipped the ball over the outfields head for long plays. Not to be outdone, Lawanza of the Foot Clan showed that girls too can kick, as she not only knocked Balls n Dolls players on their back sides with a towering shot of her own, but also netted the first ever (in my memory) home run by a female in the GUS Leagues.

As we came to the end of the game, it became a back and forth affair. Down two runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Foot Clan came through, and looked to score some more, but the stiff Balls n Dolls defense held tight and withstood the rally netting a tie.

Tie- 11-11

The Foot Clan v. CG… Wut…Wut…

With the final match-up of the day, we saw CG face off against the Foot Clan in the second half of their double header. CG immediately showed that last week’s debacle against Go Kick Yourself was an outlier, as they displayed an immaculate team performance in this one including a two for one catch in the outfield. With Juan *rolling* back into form, pitching one of the finest games of the season, giving foes pitches he dubs affectionately as “the heater”, the “Banana Hammock” and the “Caribbean Krav Maga”. Interesting.

But the Foot Clan would battle back, behind the incessant heckling of Audrey and the dynamic play of Matt Arthur, whose ability to corral in kicks few can even see has made him an early candidate for defensive player of the year.  With the game in flux, and substitute Smiley at the plate with two outs for the Foot Clan, Juan sent the “heater” right down the middle. True to form, Smiley swung with all his might, sending a towering shot….. right to the short stop… game… CG.

[\Joe Edit] LOL. [/Joe Edit]

CG…Wut…Wut… wins 7-2
