After two weeks of rain delays and what seemed like eternity we were finally able to start the Grown Up Sports Adult Coed Sand Volleyball league on Mondays at Spotts Park near downtown Houston. Let’s take a look around the league and meet our new and returning teams as well as recap the last two weeks of game play.

Gotta love these two teams. No-no-no-notorious. They are.

Flamingos v. Push It Deep

The returning champs under the new moniker Push it Deep start this party off right. Show out to Gus (real Gus, not GUS) for providing the tunes.*

Ace Ventura v. Bumpin Uglies

I see a running theme here with some of these team names. Welcome back Ace Ventura. Welcome to the fold, Bumpin’ Uglies. I’m thoroughly convinced Bumpin’ Uglies has Misty May-Treanor and Kerry Walsh Jennings on their roster, but there’s no physical proof they could be in two places at once.

Bumpin Uglies win, 2-0

Just The Tip v. Balls Out

The 7th grader in me just giggled like a school girl.

I’d Hit That v. Flamingos

The Red Jaguars overcome the Pink Flamingos in the Temple Run. In the final round, the winning team takes the Pendants of Life the players have earned into the Temple (1, 1½, or 2), and attempt to retrieve the day’s artifact and bring it back out of the temple within a three minute time limit. The team designates one member to enter the Temple first; that team member carries one of the team’s pendants. The other team member holds the remaining pendant or half pendant (if applicable) and stands by to enter should the first team member be taken out of the Temple by a Temple Guard.

Push It Deep v. Randazzlers

Sarah, Chris and Gus drive the point home as they push it deeper and harder, climaxing in a satisfying finish.

The Balls Out crew comes back with a bump, set, dig approach which takes this ones to the extra set. Drew’s crew takes the cake in the final set.

Vertically Challenged actually increased their profile with new addition, Travis Hill, upping their height quotient by 3.
