It was another sunny afternoon at the Grown Up Sports Coed Kickball League located at Lawrence Park in the Houston Heights. Let’s take a look at a quick recap of the action.
5PM: CG… Wut-Wut v. Kickfooters United
Just like that, no more 5pm games. 6pm starts from here on out. Kickfooters weren’t phased by the heat and channeled their inner fire, exploding in the first inning with 3 run shot from Big Ben, beginning the game 4-0 before CG got the next 3 batters in a row. This is worth noting because CG would change their approach later in the game, intentionally walking him when in the late innings. CG would come right back, led by the strong footwork of Juan, now leading the lineup, and second runner up, Beth, who may have found her natural sport in kickball. Three innings in and it was 4-3. Blah blah blah, more kickball, faaaast forward. Bottom of the 7th inning. Tied 7-7. What do you know. CG is back in the building. Walk off two run RBI. Boom. Bang. Pow. CG…Wut-Wut!
CG… Wut-Wut wins, 9-7

6PM: Go Kick Yourself v. KickFooters United
Go Kick Yourself looks like the front runner. They play with hubris and its warranted because they’re playing for keeps. Star pitcher, Stephen, gave his best Crocodile Dundee impression, not just in his selection of head wear, but also because of his boomerang pitch. It starts with a spin, it releases to the kicker, it comes back to Stephen, he slingshots it to first – OUT – he receives it right back. This is par for the course.
Other funny happenings: 1. Tony consistently trying to outrun his leading baserunners. 2. The constant heckling between GKY teammates. 3. Kickfooters Dennis playing every position on the field 4. Controversy at home (yes, we got a picture of that – coming soon). Kristen, you are a soldier. Let’s not block the runner or run over the catcher in the future, y’all. 5. Seeing how many calls Favor can blow in one game.
Go Kick Yourself, kicks tail, 11-1

7PM: Foot Clan v. Balls N Dolls
Oh the mighty Foot Clan. They started the season with such strength, such enthusiasm, such…strength…in numbers. This week their attendance issue limited an otherwise strong team. Despite a severely limited roster, they didn’t miss a beat, recruiting some of the GKY power players to fill the need. Balls N Dolls did not object and took on the challenge of the best of both worlds. Highlight of the game, when Balls N Dolls’ (ooh you’re lucky I’m drawing a blank on your name) kicked a line drive to shortstop, then face-planted on the first base line with nary a ball thrown her way or a defender near to throw her out. Good times. Good sport. Thought they played to a tie, the game goes in the books as a 2-0 Balls N Dolls Victory. Until the next time these two meet.
Balls N Dolls wins, 2-0
I should probably note, while we love your enthusiasm for what we’re doing…no really, we do… we don’t actually have the capacity to take pictures every week. But we will make sure that every season we get enough pictures to be able to tell a story and load them as we have time. Oh you want to see ALL the pictures? Like us on Facebook. Oh you don’t use Facebook? It’s cool, they’re on Flickr. This past Saturday’s pics will be loaded to the Facebook this week.
Thanks for coming out and having a good time. Games start at 6pm this week. Let’s do it all again.
