It was yet another glorious day at the Grown Up Sports Coed Kickball League in the Houston Heights at Lawrence Park. Now that I have fulfilled the SEO requirements of this post, lets take a look at a recap of the days action.

CG….Wut…Wut… v. Go Kick Yourself

A rematch from their week one show down in which GKY alerted the world of their dominant presence in the kickball arena. GKY got out ahead and never looked back in this one. Lead by the strong play of their female players, GKY always seems to find themselves kicking with players in scoring position. That’s when Tony will come to bat, makes a bold prediction, and sends in the runners (often getting out himself in the process). One thing we can say about Tony, he leads the league in both swagger and runs batted in, so he must be doing something right. Of course the entire GKY team is doing something right, as they play the game of kickball the way Sir Amadeus Landis intended when he invented the sport over 49 years ago.* As for CG, they were hampered from the start. With Juan experiencing a loss in his confidence as a pitcher and Eric experiencing the destruction of his hand on the first play, CG found itself most of the game battling itself to find its mojo back. Though the mojo may be making a return, it will have to wait until next week for the victories.

* This may not be true

Go Kick Yourself wins 10-3

Go Kick Yourself v. The Foot Clan

The Foot Clan found themselves short handed again, but reinforcements are on the way, as they have picked up a new, eccentric pitcher in Mike, who was displaying an array of moves unseen to human eyes before, including the football hike pitch and the Fred Flintstone pitch. We can’t wait to see what they have in store this week. With many of their key components out for the week, GKY took full advantage, getting out to the quick lead like usual. Unfortunately, this led to a bit of complacency, as the Foot Clan star kicker Jay, the “T.O.” of the GUS Leagues, took to the field and made them pay. With cohorts Andrew and Matt, the Foot Clan looked like they were ready to take one down 3, with the tying run at home. That is when team standout Nikki took the team aside and said, “This is the biggest battle o our professional lives….It all comes down to this play, and either, we heal as a team, or we’re gonna crumble. Inch by inch, play by play. Until we’re finished. We’re in hell right now, and we can stay here and get the ish kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light, we can climb out of hell.” ^

A bit dramatic, but it seemed to work, as GKY got the out and held on for the W.

^This may not have happened either

GKY wins 7-4

Kickfooters United v. Balls n Dolls

What a battle this game was. Between Jacob Olmos nearly decapitating teammate Carlos to make a play and the Kickfooters Quinncy nearly killing himself making plays, this was a battle to the finish that wasn’t short on highlights. Balls n Dolls played their usual amazing defense, and advanced runners with the greatest of ease to get out to the big lead. With Jessica showing off her soccer skills and Ozzie showing off his athleticism, the Balls n Dolls crew got up on the Kickfooters. That’s when the doubt began to creep in for the Kickfooters. A doubt built up from 3 weeks of losing play. But that doubt did not infect everyone on the Kickfooters team. Newly signed first baseman Whitney would not buy into the doubt. He took the team aside and said, “No, maybe we can’t win. Maybe the only thing we can do is just take everything they’ve got. But to beat us, they’re going to have to kill us. And to kill us, they’re gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of us. And to do that, they’ve got to be willing to die themselves. I don’t know if they’re ready to do that. I don’t know.” **

Suddenly “No Easy Way Out” began to play, and the Kickfooters made their comeback. Unfortunately they fell short as the same man who inspired the comeback, and the tying runner, Whitney, made the mistake of rounding third, and being tagged out to end the game. A folly, but Whitney looks to bring the dynamic offensive prowess the Kickfooters have been missing.

Balls n Dolls win 7-6

** This definitely didn’t happen- (using up literary license on this post)
