Well, its been a while since we have had a recap, Lets take a look at some of the action we have missed the last few weeks in our Coed Dodgeball League located near downtown Houston.
The tumultuous season of the Average Joes has continued, but in recent weeks, a change in the guard has begun, with a few new faces making their way into the fold and injecting a spark of life into the Joes step. With Scott having mastered the underhanded toss, Travis attempting the spinerooni dodge and reneging on the circle of death requests, Will being a general bad ass, Veronica and Catherine always being the last ones left, Gavin and Matt acting as the dodgeball equivalent of Batman and Robin, and Mary Anne trash talking the opposition into submission, the Joe’s are playing this season to a storybook finish; come in as the underdog and shock the world. Lets just hope none of them bets on the opponent to buy a gym.
Just like the movie, Globo Gym has been dominating opponents at a ridiculous pace. With everyone in the gym afraid to be hit by Jay’s fastballs, and Jeremy giving a dodgeball lesson every week, including introducing the new grenade dodgeball to go along with his patented turtle defense. But the strength of the Globo Gym team resides in the women warriors. Amanda Farris and Maggie Brown, known to their fans as Shake n Bake, terrorize the competition with their knuckle balls and Carla Saravia, though not known for her strong arm, has shown an ability to catch balls at opportune times. As long as the team doesn’t trust the opponents to do a circle of death, they are the favorites to take it all.
What can we say about Balls Deep. Every week it seems they have a new team ready to dominate the competition. When their standard crew makes an appearance, they boast some of the hardest throwing players in the league. Unfortunately in recent weeks its been a random sampling of individuals. This is not coincidence as I am told by sources deep within the organization that the team has been searching for new blood to spark life into the team. Whether it be the power throws of Sean, the lightning rushes of John Brown or the elusiveness of Tramaine and Ashley, who always are the last “men” standing”, this team has enough moving parts to sneak their way into the World Champion of the World designation. But can they do it without Mitch or the absentee Justin? Only time will tell.
DVX, the name says it all. The most intimidating green team on the block. They know how to play the game, and they do it well. With a balanced roster, DVX uses impeccable strategy to topple opponents. DVX uses its cunning and supreme abilities to systematically take out opponents one by one in a methodical fashion. Though the wins have not been as plentiful in recent weeks, opponents are aware of DVX’s potential. With the nifty footwork of Callas “The Enforcer”, Allison and Marie’s ability to dazzle opposing throwers with their dodging, and the dynamic offensive attack of Alan and Eileen, DVX has proven why it was once considered the favorite for the GUS Leagues dodgeball championship.
Some Highlights from the past few weeks:
- An epic one on one face-off between Amanda and Veronica to win the informal game two weeks ago. Veronica took the W (and handed my team the L :(
- Peace and Happiness
- Travis and Jeremy agreeing twice to square off in the circle of death, only to have Travis renege both times (and subsequently lose for his back tracking).
- A league-wide adoption of Jeremy’s crouch-dodge maneuver
- Eileen being down 3-1 and 4-1 in back to back games and taking out the competition.
- Jeremy and Will facing off like Army Men.
- Forfeits so I get to play!
Which brings us to now. Playoffs.
